Draft (AKA Raffle): In honor of the Vietnam-era veterans we serve, this year’s 5K For Flights will replace the traditional "raffle" with a commemorative “Draft.” This symbolic change pays tribute to the 1969 Selective Service lottery, which fundamentally shaped the lives of a generation of service members. Rather than a simple giveaway, this "Draft" will select one participant to receive a Guardian seat on our next Honor Flight, where they will escort a veteran to Washington, D.C., to visit the memorials dedicated to their service. Guardians are essential to the mission's success, providing one-on-one support to ensure the safety and comfort of our veterans on flight day. While guardians typically pay a $600 fee to cover their own travel expenses, this Draft prize provides a unique opportunity to participate in this rewarding experience. Please note that all guardians must meet specific eligibility requirements, which generally include being between the ages of 18 to 70, being in good physical health to assist veterans with tasks like pushing wheelchairs and attending a mandatory training session approximately one to two weeks before the flight. Winners must be present at the start of the race for eligibility. This won’t be the only opportunity to experience the Honor Flight. We will also Draft two Exclusive Behind the Scenes of TSA experiences where winners will get to greet Veterans at the gate during the Coming Home Ceremony and experience the ceremony from the Veterans’ perspective. These winners will hand out gifts to our returning veterans.
